One of the downsides of slicing meat by hand is the inconsistency in slice thickness. It can slice more meat than an employee ever could and costs a fraction of the cost of hiring someone. It won’t show up late or require disciplinary action. It might seem counter-intuitive, but spending money on a meat slicing machine will actually help you save money in the long run.Ī small investment in a meat slicer up front gives you the flexibility to offer more sliced meat without increasing one of your biggest expenses: your kitchen staff.Ī meat slicing machine doesn’t need to be trained or require a uniform. A great slicer can do so in less than two minutes. Depending on the make and model, you can slice fresh or cooked meat in under 5 minutes. This method is also limiting - you’ll only be able to provide sliced meat at the rate at which your employees can slice.Ī meat slicing machine can provide you with perfectly sliced meat in a fraction of the time. Hand slicing meat works, but it can take a while to go from cooked meat to sliced meat that’s ready to be served. The cartoon followed the adventures of Ash Ketchum, following the storyline set forth in Red and Blue. Pokemon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition Released: October 1999 Platform: Game Boy After one full year in the American market, Pokemon had firmly established itself as a hit with its games, merchandise and television show. It was the beginning of an epic new franchise. The RPG foundation, monster-catching gameplay mechanic and novel use of the Link Cable for trading and battling with other players all came together to create one spectacular adventure. Trying to gather one of each species became the game's second goal, and was only possible through cooperation with friends - the game was released in two versions, Red and Blue, and each one was home to exclusive monsters that couldn't be found in the other version. Players were given a choice between three different Pokemon at the beginning of the quest, and could add to their fighting team as the adventure continued by weakening wild monsters in combat and then capturing them inside Poke Balls. Combat was handled by the game world's creatures, the Pokemon - 151 different collectible monsters with names like Charmander and Butterfree. But unlike other RPGs, the human characters never fought. The goal was to be the best, to become a Master - proving yourself in battle through a series of Gyms, earning badges and opening the way to the final confrontation with the Elite Four. The game was a masterpiece RPG, casting players as kids on a journey through a world of monsters. Nine years later, after a incredibly successful, near-decade-long life cycle, its swan song arrived - Pokemon. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Pokemon series, and the brand has proven its staying power over the past decade with the release of over 30 different handheld and console titles. Because waiting is hard to do, we present this retrospective. Diamond and Pearl won't be coming to other markets until next year. The games are expected to sell millions in Japan, as well as here in the States - but American gamers will have to wait. The new adventures follow the long-established Pokemon RPG formula, adding new monsters to catch and new ways to interact with other players - like Nintendo Wi-Fi support. Obviously I'm kidding, the best one is Pokémon Pinball Ruby Sapphire for the simple fact it's just more game and more Pokémon. The fourth generation in the Pokemon series debuts in Japan this week, with the release of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl on the Nintendo DS. Personally their both good pinball games but as far as the "best" clearly that honor goes to the Vintage Pokemon Thundershock Pinball Challenge Game By Tiger Electronics!!!! Not to mention Pokémon Pinball on the Gameboy Color the cart has a Rumble Pack which requires I believe a singular Double A for it to work but its there and it's kind of cute. The gameplay can be a hair stiff but that's expected from games this old. Then again the Gameboy Color version has excellent sound effects, requires more skill, amazing Sprite work, and in general has a more bubbly personality. More Pokémon, more music, more boards, and you even get an ahh."story" mode but that's in massive quotes. The benefit to Ruby Sapphire is you just have more game. In all seriousness both the Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games are great games in their own right. This accomplishes what the Banana part does but in a nicer way. They are more robust and not unwieldy like bananas. Think of SspeakON as the modern Banana alternative. SpeakON approach: This is a novel and more elegant option offered by Benchmark. Even at normal listening volumes on the pre while urning on, hard to drive headphones act just fine powering up. But people fret too much on this, just don’t. And you’re done! Or are you? Make sure to always put your preamp volume down before you start playing because at full power the headphones will be so loud, you might lose your hearing. What you do is plug in the Banana plugs in the AHB2’s binding posts and connect your headphones to the XLR female plug. They can be had from Moon Audio, LQI cables and probably other places too. I’ll explain both as I have gone through both choices and found the latter to be more elegant.īanana approach: Okay, what you need is a Bananas to 4-pin XLR female cable to plug in your headphone. The AHB2 has banana binding posts and alternatively SpeakON connectors as outputs, so let’s pick one of the two options. Speaker amp to headphones: This is probably why you are reading this.To recap, this is what the chain looks like: DAC->preamp->AHB2 (->headphones). Okay, so you are all connected in your chain at this point. If you want to go from single ended to XLR, Benchmark has their own ones and you have to use those (they are inexpensive). If you have balanced gear, use XLR interconnects, or you can use RCA cables. Now that your DAC is connected to a preamp, the preamp needs to be connected to the AHB2.(The video is relevant because it discusses why you need a preamp) But for simplicity, to reiterate, let’s take preamp to be a volume control in this case. If this sounds too alien to you, Golden Sound’s Holo Serene review video has a very good explanation on what this is. To keep it simple, let’s consider preamps just as volume controls so that the AHB doesn’t push at all its glory, hence the preamp is a volume control in this discussion. However, I use a Burson Soloist 3xp or Schiit Mjolnir 2 that are both headphone amps with preamp functionality. Goldpoint makes one of the best ones out there for this. If you just want a volume control to attenuate the AHB2’s signal then you want a passive one. Then in the chain, the DAC gets connected to a preamp. If you have a DAC/Amp combo, ignore the next point. I have a Holo Spring 3 and let’s consider it as a standalone DAC with no volume control. This is where the music starts (after the source/streamer/computer). Let’s assume you have a DAC with no volume control. The process is as follows and it’s not just how I do it but this is the standard regardless of what gear you have. So, this necessitates the need for a preamp to control the volume. Even if you are careless, it still won’t happen – as much as naysayers will warn you. Which is basically recipe for disaster i.e., blowing up your headphones. Before starting to talk about it step by step, we need to get the fact out of the way that the AHB2 does not have a volume control – it will just push with all its might. How do you connect headphones to the AHB2 (which is a speaker amp): This is likely the most asked question and one I struggled when I was starting out. Yet, here we are, trying to power the Susvara with all our might. Well, using a power amp for headphones is overkill to begin with. Apart from this, you can use a bridge mode to use two AHB2s in a monoblock configuration should you be so inclined but for headphones, that would be overkill if you ask me. Details on that later in the writeup when I tackle how to connect your headphones. The latter is a Godsend if you are want an elegant cable run. Instead of binding posts, the SpeakOn are more robust XLR-like jacks that can accept two 2-poles outputs or a single 4-poles. I didn’t know about these before buying the AHB2. Now for the cool part, namely, the SpeakON connectors. For output, they have the standard Banana and spade binding posts. As inputs, it takes balanced XLR and RCA inputs that are pretty standard. Inputs/outputs: It is a simple balanced power amp – nothing too fancy except for one thing which I’ll mention in about three sentences. For completion, it operates in full class A – if that matters to you. The THD+N numbers are off the charts (technically reverse of that as in they are so low that they won’t show up in a plot think obscene numbers of zeros before a digit shows up). As Golden Sound put it, it is the objectively best measuring power amp and it shows. It uses the THX tech, so it has two-way feedback resulting in ultra clean output. The Tech: I will keep the boring part short and simple because you will find all the numbers and parameters on their website hence no point parroting them here. According to the Mayo Clinic, the best tips for healthy patellar tendons are: See A Doctor There is no sure-fire way to prevent a tendon injury, but there are some practices you can adopt to lessen the chance of developing patellar tendonitis, a chronic injury to the patellar tendon. How Can I Prevent A Patellar Tendon Injury? Even though recovery time may seem long, the good news is that a patellar tendon tear can be healed. It is essential that you let your patellar tendon heal so that you can get back to doing the activities you love. Even after six weeks of immobilization, you will likely not be returning to your prior physical activity for at least a couple of months. A mild tear can take up to six months to heal, while a full tendon rupture, with surgery, can take up to a year. It depends on the injury severity and the patient’s physical condition. Recovery time for a patellar tendon tear differs for each patient. Immobilization and physical therapy will still be needed after surgery. If the tendon has separated entirely from the patella, the surgeon will drill new holes in the kneecap and reattach the tendon at these new anchor points. The surgeon will stitch together the torn ends of each tendon. A complete tear or rupture, or a partial tear that doesn’t heal well, will require surgery. If you head up, keep in mind that you need to have a timed ticket to snow tube, and weekends can sell out quickly. The ski slopes weren’t open yet, but visitors were lining up for their chance to zoom down the slopes on their tubes. Ober Gatlinburg had been making snow for a few weeks, and it seemed to be sticking around despite the unseasonably warm temperatures hitting the East Coast. Ober Gatlinburg, a local fun and shopping center in the mountains, had shut down their water slides for the season, but we arrived just in time for the start of snow tubing season. We road up during the day and then again at night since our tickets worked for a 24-hour period. Taking the tram from downtown up to Ober Gatlinburg was the highlight of the trip for my son. We saw plenty of greenery on the hills in winter, but I could only image how gorgeous the drive would be in the spring when the mountains were in full bloom.Īlthough hiking is always my idea of a good time, it’s not the only thing to do in Gatlinburg with kids. Like evergreen trees in the Pacific Northwest, the Smoky Mountains are covered in mountain laurels and rhododendrons. I was hoping the drive to Cades Cove would force him into a nap, but the scenery was just too gorgeous for him to miss. Tears and tantrums ensued as I dragged my son away and back down to the car. The waterfall was worth the climb, and all of the grandparents who had seen us slowly making our way up the winding path clapped as we crossed a little bridge to join the rest of the hikers gazing up at Laurel Falls. I had to carry him a little bit on the way back, but for the most part, he did the whole thing himself. With lots of donut sugar running through his veins, my toddler son was able to complete the 2.6 mile hike up to Laurel Falls and back. No snow meant we had sure footing on the paved path. The weather was a sunny 63 degrees, quite warm for early December, but the best kind of weather for hiking. Easy winter morning hikesįueled up for a day of exploration, my son and I headed into Great Smoky Mountains National Park to see a few waterfalls and maybe a deer or two. If you are looking for more hearty fare, as we did on alternate mornings, breakfast, and even lunch, at the Pancake Pantry is a local institution, but the cinnamon rolls and omelets at Davy Crockett’s Breakfast Camp should not be missed either. I’m still not sure how he manages to eat food this way. My toddler annihilated his rainbow sprinkle donut, licking off all of the cream and leaving the bottom half of the donut just for me. I’m actually not a huge donut fan, but the Friar’s Favorite (a chocolate frosted cream-filled beauty) and the éclair brought me back to my childhood when donuts were under a dollar, and meant to get all over your face. Just around the corner, The Donut Friar was baking up some of the best donuts I’ve ever had, and I’m not just saying that. Amazon, Wayfair, Target, and Walmart are not built for the find. the psychological feeling that comes not from the search bar but from the joy of shopping in its purest form. HomeGoods’s game is the delight of the unexpected, aka the “find” - i.e. Not once does the above say anything about shipping because shipping is not a point of differentiation. And, oh by the way, this is essentially the exact same technology that could be lit up through smart Facebook and Instagram ads at the point of serendipitous discovery, too. That is omnichannel greatness, and that is what HomeGoods has been missing and how it could also continue to differentiate itself in the marketplace. She is just consuming on her own schedule. She later receives the notification via text, clicks on the notification, and then reserves the item for pickup on Saturday and after she plans to be finished taking the rug rats to their soccer practices.Īll in all, she gets the same great HomeGoods treasure hunt experience, but she gets it on her schedule and at a time when circumstances would have otherwise prevented her from going into the store. She asks HomeGoods to notify her of when the product is available to be purchased for pickup in store. Imagine the same local Des Moines HomeGoods enthusiast has her eye on a new chair that is arriving on Saturday at a hot price. With all the above now in play, the third and final step HomeGoods should take to achieve off-price omnichannel greatness is to make its localized inventory online available for curbside and in-store pickup at the top of the funnel on its product landing and detail pages. Customers can then browse from the upcoming selections, ask for notifications of the upcoming events via text, or even, dare one say it, get spurred to go into their local stores to snap up something they like before they risk letting it go on sale. Once the inventory is localized as described above, the next thing HomeGoods should do is to take a page from Nike’s Sneakers App and tie the product deliveries at the store level to the time of day and in-store arrival schedule.įor instance, if new chairs at hot prices are set to arrive on a Saturday or if new markdowns are planned for the following Tuesday, HomeGoods should let customers know via upcoming “inventory drop” or “price cut” features online. #2 - Product drops should be timed to the day He or she can then browse, search, or do whatever he or she wants, and then also rest assured that all the items in the online store are unique to the Des Moines locale and that he or she is not danger of competing with anyone outside of Des Moines to get them. Once this Iowa customer goes online, all the items and the prices of those items should all be personalized, right down to his or her local store in Des Moines, the second he or she opens his or her mobile or desktop browser. Say, for example, a customer lives in Des Moines, IA. To do it right online, everything needs to be personalized via a digital front face so that loyal HomeGoods customers shopping online feel the same way they do standing and waiting to get into a HomeGoods store on a normal Saturday morning. Making this shine through online though is difficult. They all carry small lots of products that are hard to find anywhere else and that vary from store to store. HomeGoods and off-price stores in general are unique. It needs to make something that looks like this: #1 - Each digital visit should be tailored to a local HomeGoods store It needs to put forward something that has never been done before, something that plays on its strengths and that has nothing to do with traditional ways of thinking. No, if HomeGoods is to be successful in its e-commerce foray, it needs to seize the opportunity in a different way. Amazon AMZN, Wayfair, Walmart, Target, and Overstock all do that already, and the landscape is littered with countless others that have also tried and failed. It’s just a question of what the there looks like because the ultimate answer isn’t that HomeGoods should just enter e-commerce and start shipping products left and right. Online resale sites, like ThredUp and The RealReal REAL, are probably the next closest siblings to off-price deal hunting, but there, too, the items are all preowned, and the overall economics work quite differently from how TJX and HomeGoods operate day-to-day.Īll that being said, there’s a there, there, somewhere. Online flash sale models have tried to approximate the concept, but they are like the red-headed stepchildren of off-price retailing because they are predicated on deal fever for large quantities of single items versus a plethora of routined unexpected delights at local stores. A myriad of companies have tried to simulate the psychology of the find online, but none have ever really captured its ethos. |
